Christopher Simmons Tenor

Described by Opera Canada as “an exciting tenor with consummate acting abilities”, American lyric tenor Christopher Simmons has quickly won over Canadian audiences with a refined voice and winning stage presence. Since his arrival he has become one of the most sought-after tenors in British Columbia.

His repertoire ranges from the opera and symphony stage to art song and musical theatre. In 2006 he made several successful opera debuts including Burnaby Lyric Opera (The Merry Widow - St. Brioche), Opera Appassionata (La Finta Giardiniera - Count Belfiore), and The Opera Project (Cosi fan Tutte - Ferrando). His recent symphonic engagements include singing the Evangelist in Bach’s St. Matthew Passion with the Abbotsford Symphony, and a Mozart Requiem with the West Coast Symphony.

He has performed with a wide variety of other arts organizations in British Columbia as well including; Gateway Theatre, the Dawson Creek Symphonette, the Fraser Valley Gilbert and Sullivan Society, the Willan Choir, the Pacific Singers, and the Vancouver Handel Society.

In 2005 he participated in the Summer Vocal Academy of the Victoria Conservatory of Music where he sang excerpts from Verdi’s La Traviata (Alfredo), Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette (Romeo), and Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Lysander) under the baton of Guiseppe Peitraroia of Pacific Opera Victoria and directed by Vancouver Opera favourite Ann Hodges.
